Keep an eye out for details of an Active Travel Roadshow to take place on Wednesday 2nd August at Riverside Park, Chester-Le-Street.
County Durham’s main cycling, wheeling and walking route has been given a £1.5million upgrade, with a new glow in the dark section among the improvements made.
The National Cycle Network Route 1 (NCN1), which starts in Dover and ends in the Shetland, runs through the county and is managed by Sustrans, who partnered with Durham County Council to deliver the Department for Transport improvements.
Resurfacing work has been completed on the two sections between Dawdon and the A19, and the new Jade Business Park development and the old coke works at South Hetton.
More recently, a glow in the dark surfacing has been laid between the old coke works and the A182 crossing point - a first for Country Durham!
Residents and visitors to Newton Aycliffe and Shildon will be happy to hear that new maps have been produced showing cycle friendly routes in the towns. Please email activetravel@durham.gov.uk to request a copy.Â
